Toyota and its dealers have long been supporters of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program for needy children, which is run annually during the holiday season.
This year, Huntington Toyota & Scion is doing something more than collecting toys. It's raffling off what it calls a “mint condition,” oldie: a 1990 Celica, above, a since-discontinued sporty car.
The dealership’s general manager, Lenny Cafarelli, says the car is worth about $3,000, a figure confirmed by a check of the NADA Used Car Price Guide.
He said the dealership decided to use it to raise money for Toys for Tots rather than sell it to a wholesaler. “We got it from the original owner,” he said. “He bought it here and recently traded it in.”
Raffle tickets are $5. The drawing tentatively is scheduled for Dec. 22 at the dealership at 1030 Jericho Tpke., Huntington Station.
