Canvas Charter School proposed in the Bronx

The Canvas Charter School says it will accept all students who are teen parents, have been homeless or those who have become over-aged and under credited.

THE BRONX - The founder of a proposed charter school in the Bronx met with board members and residents today to discuss the school's unique acceptance program.

The Canvas Charter School says it will accept all students who are teen parents, have been homeless or those who have become over-aged and under-credited.

The founder, Erika Newsome, says she is hoping the school will be part of Community District 11.

"Most people who are now successful adults can look back and see one point in their life they wished they could turn something around, that there was somebody there, some support, whether it was a parent, a teacher.  We want to be that for that student and educate the community," says Newsome.

Members of Community Board 11 will discuss the school at a meeting next Tuesday.
