When people think of cars and SUVs made in the United States, they think of the usual Chevy, Ford and GM products. But today, several foreign automakers manufacture cars in the United States as well, as Acura, BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Subaru and Volkswagen make some of their models at various plants around the country. Acura's MDX is manufactured in the company's East Liberty, Ohio, plant, which opened in 1989 and makes cars and light trucks for Acura and Honda.
Like the MDX, the Acura's TLX is manufactured at the company's East Liberty, Ohio, plant, back to when the model was first introduced in 2014.
Starting in September 2010, BMW shifted production of its X3 model from Austria to Greer, S.C., which has produced the vehicle since the 2011 model year.
The X4 has been produced at BMW's factory in Spartanburg County, S.C., since its introduction in 2014.

Hyundai Santa Fe
Hyundai's Santa Fe SUV has been manufactured in West Point, Ga., since 2010. Before then, it was manufactured in Montgomery, Ala.
The Sonata is built in Montgomery, Ala., at Hyundai's first U.S. plant, which opened in 2005.
Kia began manufacturing the Optima at its West Point, Ga., plant in 2011, and has produced the model since the 2012 model year.
The Sorento was Kia's first model built in the United States, with production at the $1 billion Georgia plant beginning in 2010.
Mercedes-Benz GL Class
Outside a couple of cars manufactured in Germany, most Mercedes-Benz GL Class models were manufactured in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.
Mercedes-Benz M/GLE Class
The Mercedes-Benz M Class (renamed the GLE Class in 2015), are manufactured in Alabama, as many of the models have been since the plant opened in 1997.
The Subaru Legacy has been built at the company's Lafayette, Ind., plant since February 2004, building from model year 2005 to today.
Subaru has also produced the Outback at the Indiana facility since 1999.
Volkswagen's Passat model has been built at a plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., since 2011.
