With the success of the Fiat 500 launch earlier this year, Chrysler is now looking to expand on its Fiat connections with a new compact car for its Dodge brand. USA Today is reporting that the new Dodge model will be based off the Alfa Romeo Giulietta (Fiat’s small luxury car offering in Europe, pictured above).
Not much is known about the new Dodge. Europe’s Giuletta is available with six different engines – three of those are diesels. The gasoline engines range from 120 hp. to a turbo charged 235-hp. engine.
The USA Today is saying the vehicle's MP3 will likely be in the low 30s. That would make it as fuel efficient as the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, 2012 Ford Focus and 2012 Hyundai Elantra.
The still unnamed vehicle will reportedly replace the Caliber, which gets 24 mpg rating with an automatic transmission.
The new Dodge will probably go on sale sometime in the first half of 2012.
