The wait is almost over for Mustang fans.
Ford announced that dealers can start taking orders for the redesigned-for-2015 coupe, but all the pieces of the pricing puzzle have not yet fallen into place. The 2015 Mustang with the 300-plus-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 will start at $24,425, including a destination charge, and will be available at dealerships this fall. The 2015 Mustang is only slightly more expensive than the outgoing, 2014 version, which starts at $23,335, including destination.
The pony car's nemesis checks in at a similar price: The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro with the 323-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 starts at $24,550, including destination. Although the automaker announced pricing for the base V-6 model, it's still mum on how much the midlevel turbocharged four-cylinder and topline V-8 versions will cost.
The Mustang's base 3.7-liter joins new 305-plus-hp,turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder and the updated 5.0-liter V-8 that Ford says is good for more than 420 hp. Transmission choices include a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic.
Aside from sleeker, more modern styling cues outside and a new four-cylinder engine, the 2015 Mustang also gets a fully independent front and rear suspension as well as a host of new standard features, including a backup camera, high-intensity-discharge headlamps, leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel, keyless access, push-button start, two USB ports and Ford’s Syncmultimedia system with voice control, app compatibility and a 4.2-inch touch-screen.
Options include an 8-inch touch-screen with navigation, a blind spot warning system, a cross-traffic alert system, adaptive cruise control, selectable drive modes that allow the driver to alter throttle and steering settings, and a launch control system that Ford says gives drivers maximum and consistent acceleration at the track.
