The new 2013 Taurus SHO, the sport version of Ford’s midsized sedan, made its debut this week at the NY Auto Show. Ford is touting it as the “sportiest Taurus yet to wear the coveted performance badge,” Ford said. The upgraded model combines aggressive styling, horsepower, technology and fuel economy to put in direct competition with the upscale luxury brands.
“The Taurus SHO has always followed the original formula of stealthy sleeper, and the new model is no exception,” said chief designer Gordon Platto. “We wanted to keep the subtle, understated yet sporty elegance, but at the same time, we knew it was time to even more fully differentiate the Super High Output model from other Taurus series models.”
On the outside the SHO has a lower more aggressive profile, a honeycomb grill, a rear spoiler, xenon headlamps, 19-inch or optional 20-inch premium painted wheels, and black. In the cabin, the SHO has leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather-trimmed seats with SHO graphics, and power-adjustable aluminum pedals.
The SHO will have Ford Sync and a Sony premium audio system that comes with a custom built subwoofer enclosure.
Underneath the hood, Ford’s Taurus SHO remains the same. It uses the same 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that delivers 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque with a six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddles.
No word yet on pricing, but expect the SHO to be near the $40,000 range.
