THE CAR AND ITS OWNER
1995 Ferrari F355 Spider owned by John Micciche
WHAT MAKES IT INTERESTING
With its sleek body designed by legendary coachbuilder Pininfarina, the F355 – built from 1994 to 1999 -- was said to have undergone 1,800 hours of wind tunnel testing during its development. Micciche says the V-8 engine “puts out about 400 horsepower in a car that weighs less than 3,000 lbs. The exhaust note in the F355, especially with the Tubi (aftermarket) headers and mufflers, is said to be the sweetest of any Ferrari ever built.”
HOW LONG HE’S OWNED IT
Since August 2012
WHERE HE FOUND IT
He bought it from a Long Island dealer.
“What I especially like about this car is the color,” says Micchiche. “The dark metallic green is a very rare factory original color. There are only six F355s listed in the Ferrari database in this color. These Ferraris require a major engine-out service every five years. My preference was to purchase a car which was due for this service so I could have it done to my specifications at a location of my choice.”
TIPS FOR OWNERS
“Unless you are an experienced mechanic yourself,” he says, “I would strongly suggest having a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) done by an experienced Ferrari professional.
Micchiche estimates the value between $40,000 and $80,000.
THE BOTTOM LINE
“I have owned and driven many American and European sports cars,” he says, “but driving this Ferrari is unlike anything I have ever known. Running through the gears of the six-speed transmission -- with super-fast acceleration in each gear, the top down on a curvy country road, radio off and listening to the sound of the exhaust pipes – is, for me, the ultimate driving experience.”
