Lexus has unveiled a redesigned ES at this year's New York International Auto Show, including the ES350 and the ES300h hybrid for 2013.
The entry level luxury sedans have an all-new exterior to match the rest of the redesigned Lexus lineup. The new ES features Lexus' new spindle grille. The ES 350’s rear bumper sports dual exhaust pipes, while the ES 300h hybrid features a rear design with hidden exhaust and an integrated spoiler.
The interior on both models has been designed with a big cabin feel. Visibility looks to have been improved, the cabin materials are of high quality, and the controls are naturally placed.
The ES 350 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission producing about 280 horsepower.
The ES300h uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder as part of its hybrid drive. The ES 300h hybrid has drive modes: Normal, Sport, Eco and EV. EV mode allows short distance drives, at reduced speed, using only the power from the hybrid battery pack. Normal mode provides a blend of performance and efficiency that is suited to everyday driving, while Eco mode favors fuel economy. Sport mode increases powertrain responsiveness.
Lexus says the ES300h will get 40 mpg overall.
No word yet on pricing or availability, but look for it to hit dealership floors later this year.
