Three months after opening its expanded showroom, Porsche of South Shore said it’s expecting to close the year with about 250 car sales — an increase from 140 in 2014, when new ownership took control of the Freeport dealer.
The expansion allows the dealer to show up to 60 cars, said Paul Cunha, general manager at Porsche of South Shore.
“A couple of years ago, we were able to show 20 to 25 cars, tops,” Cunha said.
The dealership is owned by The Experience Auto Group, which operates luxury car dealerships that include Plainview-based Ferrari-Maserati of Long Island and Gold Coast Maserati in Great Neck.
Porsche was the 11th most popular luxury car on Long Island in 2015, according to state Department of Motor Vehicle statistics compiled by Newsday. There were 8,457 Porsche automobiles registered in Nassau and Suffolk counties in 2015.
Mercedes-Benz was the Island’s top luxury brand last year, with 76,574 cars registered, followed by BMW, with 67,949.
Cunha said the most expensive car sold this year at Porsche South Shore was a used silver 2004 Carrera GT, which went for $640,000. The car has a 612-horsepower engine.
He added that the flagship 911 remains the most requested car, but it’s “a car that has high demand, but low supply. So the Cayenne SUV is our top seller, and it’s in the $60,000 range.”
