Veronica O'Neill has been elected vice president of the Collateral Loan Brokers Association of New York. The Patchogue resident is president and owner of William J. O'Neill Sales Exchange in Patchogue.

Janalyn Travis-Messer has been elected president of the Shelter Island Historical Society. The Shelter Island resident is principal broker at Griffing & Collins Real Estate in Shelter Island.

Mary Marquez Bell has been appointed director of the American International Recruitment Council, which develops standards of ethical practice for recruitment of international students to American education institutions. The Deer Park resident is vice president for enrollment services at SUNY College at Old Westbury.

Dr. Cynthia L. Harden has joined North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center as chief of the comprehensive epilepsy care institute with the hospitals' department of neurology. The Manhattan resident directed the International Center for Epilepsy at the University of Miami Health System.

Dr. David A. Schessel has been named chief of the division of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, known as the ear, nose and throat service, at Stony Brook University Medical Center. The associate professor of surgery has been serving as acting chief since 2008 and is a Lake Grove resident.

Ethan A. Kobre has joined Farrell Fritz in Uniondale as a commercial litigation associate. He was an associate at Brody & Browne in Manhattan and lives in Kew Gardens Hills.

Michael Schementi has been promoted to senior vice president/chief financial officer at the American Technion Society, a Manhattan-based organization that supports higher education in Israel. The Garden City resident was vice president and chief financial officer.
