Michael Boufis has been elected chairman of the Long Island Water Conference. The Islip resident is the superintendent of the Bethpage Water District and previously was first vice chairman of the LIWC.

Cathleen Colvin has been appointed to the board of advisers of the Long Island Community Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization that connects donors with charitable organizations within Long Island. The Oyster Bay resident is assistant general counsel for Pall Corp. in Port Washington.


Law firm Nixon Peabody has promoted two attorneys to partner.

Jim Montes, of Setauket, previously was counsel and concentrates his practice on the financing of general infrastructure, electric and water utilities. He is a public finance attorney and will work in the Jericho office.

Michael Schnipper, of East Northport, previously was an associate and focuses his practice on the representation of public and private companies in business law and transactions including mergers and acquisitions, and debt and equity financing. He will work in the Jericho office as part of the global business/health services area.
