Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola has added two board-certified physicians to its department of orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Jan E. Koenig has been named chief of joint-replacement surgery and director of computer-assisted and robotic orthopedic surgery. The Dix Hills resident specializes in robotically assisted total knee replacement. He was director of orthopedic surgery and chief of arthritis and joint-replacement surgery at Mercy Medical Center. Koenig is a member of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. P. Leo Varriale specializes in arthroscopic surgery. The Old Brookville resident is a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has held clinical appointments at Mercy Medical Center, including chief of sports medicine and director of orthopedic surgery.
Paul F. Oliveri has joined Sullivan Papain Block McGrath & Cannavo as of counsel. The personal injury law and medical malpractice law firm has offices in Garden City, Cutchogue, Manhattan and Hackensack, N.J. The Lynbrook resident is the founding member of the law firm Oliveri & Schwartz. He is a director emeritus of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, a member of the American Association for Justice, the New York State Bar Association, the New York County Lawyers' Association and the Nassau Lawyers Association of Long Island.
