BOARDS & ASSOCIATIONS
Gabriele K. Libbey has been named a public member of the New York State Department of Education's state board for the optometry profession. The Island Park resident is executive director emeritus of the Nassau County Dental Society.

Paul Tartaglia has been elected to the executive leadership team of the Electric Power Research Institute's generation council. He is the regional manager for Southeast New York, which includes Nassau and Suffolk counties, at the New York Power Authority. He lives in Yorktown.

Polly Henry has been named to the executive board of the Long Island Men's Center, an Amityville-based organization that helps men access health and human services, education, and social, cultural and economic resources. She is a nursing assistant at Cold Spring Hills Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Woodbury.

EDUCATION
Catherine Flickinger has joined New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury as general counsel. She was most recently executive vice president and general counsel at Hachette Filipacchi Media in Manhattan. Flickinger is a Manhattan resident.

FINANCE
Jeffrey Cohen has joined the Jericho accounting firm Grassi & Co. as tax partner. He held a similar position at Biscotti Toback & Co. in Garden City and lives Plainview.

Joseph Romagnuolo has joined Citizens Bank as a mortgage loan officer and will work from its Garden City office. The Queens resident came from Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in Bellmore, where he was a home mortgage consultant.

HEALTH CARE
Dr. Andrei Barasch has been named chairman of the new department of dental medicine at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola. The new program will include clinical care and dental medicine education as well as research. The program is expected to begin mid-2012. Barasch was most recently an associate professor in the department of general dental sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is now a Glen Cove resident.

LAW
Christopher Kent has joined the Uniondale law firm Farrell Fritz as a partner in the firm's land use, municipal and zoning practice group. He was most recently chief deputy county executive in Suffolk County. He lives in Quogue.

Timothy J. Fierst has joined Rosenberg & Estis in Manhattan as a partner in the litigation group where he represents banks, mortgage lenders, loan servicers and general creditors. He lives in Farmingdale and was counsel at the Manhattan office of Crowell & Moring, a Washington, D.C., law firm.

NONPROFIT
Denise Gandolfo has been appointed executive assistant to the chief executive of the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council. The Holtsville resident held a similar position with the chief medical officer at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn.
