A Matinecock mansion sold for $9.5 million two weeks after coming on the market. Called Candlelight, the six-bedroom home had been listed for $9.75 million.
The home was built in 1925 by Robert A. Lovett, a businessman who served as secretary of defense under President Harry Truman. Now on seven acres, it was once part of a larger estate, says listing agent Patrick Mackay of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty. The home was renovated in 2008.
The buyers were the second people to tour the home, says Mackay. They had been in contract on another house but that sale had fallen through.
“It was good timing,” Mackay says.
The property had been on the market three years ago with a different broker for $12 million, says Mackay.
