A fisherman’s cottage in Greenport, built in 1880 and on the market for $419,999, comes with an artist’s studio that owner and artist Janis Garramone converted from a horse barn built in the 1920s.
After buying the house 20 years ago, Garramone made many updates while keeping some of the period features in place. She left the barn’s original windows, but put up Sheetrock walls, installed heat and electricity and also pushed up the ceiling and put in skylights.
“The light is wonderful up there,” says Garramone, an abstract painter.
Garramone left an original 1926 sink in the kitchen of the 1,400-square-foot, three-bedroom house, and added wide-plank flooring. She planted gardens and installed an outdoor shower. Adding to the artistic nature of the property, a sculptor friend of Garramone’s trimmed the front hedge to create an arched entry.
It is listed with Jill Dunbar of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty.
