The 6.5-acre gated property in Sagaponack belonging to New Jersey's former governor's ex-wife recently sold for $43.5 million, according to the Long Island Real Estate Report.

Property records show that the Gibson Lane spread belongs to Joanne Corzine, who used the name "Joanne D. Brown" in selling to an entity known as Dama LLC. The sale closed May 19.

There is a 6,200-square-foot house, a heated pool, a guest house and a tennis court on the property.

The property had been available this year for rent for $900,000 for Memorial Day to Labor Day through Susan Breitenbach of The Corcoran Group and Beate Moore of Sotheby's International Realty. The house set a rental record in 2009 when billionaire businessman Henry Silverman snagged it last summer for $900,000.

Moore says no agents were involved in the sale of the house. "I wish I had been involved," she says.

She says Corzine told her and Breitenbach not to present any offers under $50 million. "It's a big number for that property," Moore says. Still, several people expressed interest in renting the property, some for $1 million for the three-month period, Moore says.

She says the buyer was David A. Tepper, a Wall Street investor and hedge fund manager who lives in New Jersey.

Breitenbach says she had been working with Tepper to find an oceanfront home for about six months but that he had seen the Corzine house before they met. "It's an amazing property," she says.

Tepper declined to comment. Corzine could not be reached.
