A brick church in Glen Cove, designed by famed architects Delano & Aldrich, the same firm that created what is now Oheka Castle, is on the market for $899,000.

The church can remain as is or be converted into a house, says Paul Mateyunas of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty.

The building -- First Church-Christ Scientist Glen Cove -- is in a residential community surrounded by homes, Mateyunas says.

Built in 1931, “the main structure has a beautiful front column portico,” Mateyunas says.

Original arched Palladian windows and high ceilings with some original light fixtures are part of the design. The rear was extended in the 1960s, while other features include a lower level with windows.

Though there aren’t any showers, but the church has four bathrooms, so there is plumbing, Mateyunas says, adding that it has a gas line as well. Mateyunas says that if the church were converted into a house, it could accommodate three or four bedrooms.

Not only is an alternative use building like this a rare find, but Mateyunas says he has never seen a Delano & Aldrich structure on Long Island priced for less than $1 million. “It’s one of the unique things to happen on Long Island,” Mateyunas adds.
