This castle-like house in Glen Head, on the market for $698,000, is being advertised as a "cloistered retreat."
In a private setting high on a hill surrounded by trees, the turreted four-bedroom, two-bathroom house was built in the early 1930s. Not much is known about the builder, but there are plenty of classic details, including an original stone spiral staircase, layers of crown molding and clamshell shaped built-ins.
"It's so charming," says Barbara Bach Bauer of Realty Executives West, who is co-listing the property with Catherine Simonetti. "It has a lot of fine touches."
The house is built into a hill, so what would be a basement is a walkout room with floor-to-ceiling windows, French doors and a fireplace. Outside is a two-level brick terrace and an in-ground pool with a cabana.
Rhododendrons bloom in the spring.
