There’s a lot of history connected with this circa-1830, two-story frame home in Greenport, listed for $650,000. The house was passed down through generations of the Parks and Biggs families until the current owner, Ronny Diamond, and her husband, the late Tom Levin, bought the place in 1979.

“We were advised to raze it,” recalls Diamond, but over the next two years the couple restored the 10-room home. Then they added something different to the front room — a commercial art gallery.

Opening day of The Greenport Gallery in 1981 not only featured an exhibit by artist Mel Roman but also a tour of the entire home. This was for the sake of the villagers who were “very curious about what was happening to the house.” It remained open until 1984.

The home sits on a quarter-acre corner lot and has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, an eat-in kitchen with a mudroom, a living room (former gallery space), a formal dining room, a home office, five fireplaces, original wide plank wood floors, a front porch and a detached one-car garage.

The listing agent is Janet Markarian of Century 21 Alberston Realty.
