THE SCOOP Lindenhurst, which comprises a village and an unincorporated area, stretches from the Great South Bay to north of Sunrise Highway.

Some areas south of Montauk Highway were hard hit by superstorm Sandy.

Residents and merchants continue to deal with the aftermath, says village clerk Shawn Cullinane. "People continue to work to get their houses repaired," Cullinane says, noting some homes are being raised. (To have a house raised, there is an application process and certain criteria.)

"You still see workers, Dumpsters and Pods," says Jo Ann Boettcher, president of the Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce and an agent with Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate. The village is working to repair the marina on South Wellwood by fall.

Lindenhurst -- both the village and North Lindenhurst -- offers recreation spots, as well as shops, eateries and services, many of which are along Wellwood Avenue. Buyers can find Colonials, ranches, high ranches, Capes and contemporaries. Neighborhoods include Merridale Park in the village, while Venetian Shores and American Venice, with small bridges and canals, are outside the village.
