Mortgage rates climbed last week, according to the online mortgage marketplace Lending Tree. In New York State, the lowest mortgage rate offered was 4.75 percent (4.86 percent APR), up from 4.63 percent (4.73 percent APR) the week before. The U.S. average for last week rose to 4.75 percent (4.99 percent APR).
The average loan-to-value ratio last quarter was 71.2 percent for the state and 70.2 percent for the nation. Nationally, 35 percent had negative equity last quarter. In New York State, it was 33.2 percent -- no change from the previous quarter. New York had the smallest percentage of homes with less than 20 percent equity in comparison to other states, Lending Tree reports.
