A Northport home that was once part of a grand Long Island yacht club is on the market for $1.299 million.
The three-bedroom, three-bathroom Colonial is one-half of the building that was the Northport Yacht Club from 1899 to 1925, says Steven King, Northport village historian. It was the first yacht club in the village and considered to be the socially prominent one, he says.
The building was eventually turned into two attached single-family homes, says listing agent Denise Gianatasio of Signature Premier Properties.
The original ballroom, with its inlaid wood floors, is divided between the two homes, says Gianatasio.
"The story goes that the likes of the Rockefellers, the Duponts, the Vanderbilts and the Roosevelts danced on that ballroom floor," Gianatasio says.
There are water views from every room, and the house has three levels of patios.
Outside, there's a fully-stocked fish pond surrounded by gardens. There's also a one-car garage.
