Originally listed in 2010 for $25 million, Twinight, a six-acre Centre Island estate, is now on the market for $14.988 million with Shawn Elliott and Zachary Elliott of Shawn Elliott Luxury Homes and Estates.
The owner, Richard Baron Cohen, a businessman and European porcelain collector, had Twinight built on the north side of the peninsula overlooking Long Island Sound in 2005. Standing four stories, the manse is more than 20,000 square feet, Shawn Elliott says.
It’s said the design is inspired by the Petit Trianon chateau at the Palace of Versailles. Since the exterior is all limestone, the exterior glows just before sunset, Elliott says, noting it almost looks light pink.
Upon entering the home, one is greeted by a grand entrance with a frescoed, 30-foot ceiling. The gold-leaf four seasons painting took artisans more than six months to complete, Elliott says.
Among the 16 rooms are a two-story mahogany library with water views, a fitness center and a retro-style 12-seat theater with damask velvet wall coverings. The theater is equipped with a Crestron audio and video system. There are nine bedrooms, nine full baths and three half-baths.

COZY FOR KIDS. One home in Northport on the market, listed for $1.69 million, offers six bedrooms, 5½ baths, three fireplaces and a few features done with a focus on family. “My husband and I designed the house after looking at two other homes -- they both had that Cape Cod feel,” says seller Tracey Tetrault. “I kind of fell in love with that coziness.”
The study was created with built-in cherrywood work stations where the kids could do their homework. Pillars were put in to give the exterior a comfortable and inviting environment.
“There are a lot of places for groups, but a lot of little places to curl up,” says Tetrault.
The great room is large so the children and their friends could hang out together in one space; conversely, reading nooks were factored into the layout so family members could enjoy quieter moments.
