A Matinecock Colonial, formerly a stable on the 1914 estate of wealthy industrialist C.K.G. Billings, is on the market. Billings, an avid horseman, once hosted a dinner in the grand ballroom of a Fifth Avenue hotel in Manhattan where the guests were on horseback and the floors covered in turf for the occasion.
The asking price is $3.49 million.
Current owner Steven Kosoff, a builder who runs United Estates of New York, kept as much of the original detail as possible when converting 7,000 square feet of the stable into his home. The stalls’ wainscot walls now divide a sitting room, dining area and eat-in kitchen from a great room.
The 5-acre property includes an attached, 5,000-square-foot carriage house that has not been restored and stables and two outer buildings.
The listing agent is Minoo Pajounia of Lynx Realty Inc.
