Set on 2.3 acres in Sagaponack, a house under construction by Michael Davis Design and Construction is meant to evoke an English country manor.
The asking price for the house is $19,500,000.
When the house – at 243 Hedges Lane -- is completed, eight bedrooms will spread out over three floors (linked together by an elevator); there will also be a library, a dining room, a media room and a kitchen. On the lower level, there will be a home theater as well as a gym with a steam room and a sauna.
Outdoors, there will be a pool; terraces will abound and the backyard will overlook 48 acres of reserved farmland. Glimpses of the ocean will enliven the views from the second floor.
“It’s a pretty sweet spot,” says Michael Davis, the company's founder and chief executive.
When the company announced its plans to build the place, says Davis, there was a lot of debate about buildings that already stood on the land. “One of the things I agreed to do was restore the Greek Revival cottage that dated to the 1840s.” That house is now for sale along with the new house.
Regardless of the luxuries the new construction includes, Davis says he was looking for a more relaxed feel for the house. “I’m not in favor of the McMansions,” he says. “I tend toward the English country house. What we are trying to achieve is a farm feeling -- a farmhouse kind of feeling.”
