Known as “Sandacres,” this sprawling waterfront property in Quogue listed for $24.999 million was the picturesque setting in two children’s books published long ago.

The books — titled “About Ellie at Sandacre” and “More About Ellie and Mr. Me Too” — were written by Eleanor Sloan in the 1920s. Both detail Sloan’s childhood memories of the summer escapes she spent at the Long Island estate, which was built in 1883.

The property also was once the site of the Sandacre Poultry Yards. An 1889 article written in The Corrector, a Sag Harbor community paper, described the property as being “known in nearly all parts of the country among poultry men.”

The 8,000-square-foot home, secluded along the shore of Quantuck Bay, features a living room and den that open up to a deck overlooking the water. The home includes nine bedrooms, 5-1/2 bathrooms, a game room and a detached two-bedroom cottage.

In addition to the green lawns spread across 15 acres, the site also includes a deepwater dock along the very seashore that Ellie roamed in her books.

The home is listed with the Enzo Morabito team at Douglas Elliman Real Estate.
