About 15 years ago, the homeowners of a house in Bayville wanted to maximize the space of their 40-by-95-foot property -- so they tore it down to the foundation and completely rebuilt it. The Contemporary three-bedroom, three-bathroom, 2,210-square-foot house they designed -- which is on the market for $470,000 -- gave them exactly what they needed. IF YOU REBUILD IT, THEY WILL COME

While Bayville traditionally has smaller bungalows and cottages, this home, which was originally built in 1950, is quite different.

"It allowed them to have more space, and they liked the open floor plan," says Elisa Eletto of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, who is co-listing the home with Michael Schumm. "The flow of the house is nice, with spacious rooms."

Four years ago, they did the kitchen again with custom cabinets and a large center island.

The house has views of Oyster Bay, and it's across the street from the beach.
