Why it’s for sale Tom, 75, a retiree from the Shoreham power plant, where he was a construction supervisor, and Ann, 60, an assistant to the superintendent at Little Flower Children’s Services of New York in Wading River, say they’re relocating to South Carolina.
The Riccios had their 2,400-square-foot home built in 1995. Tom’s construction knowledge played a big role in the building of their home. Tom says:
“The house has 2-by-6-inch outside walls (most homes are 2-by-4 inch) with 1-inch foam board between the plywood and shingles. That’s a big energy cost saver. . . . Two homes on our street are currently on the market for over $1 million. We’re only 2,500 feet from the beach and a quarter-mile from Baiting Hollow Winery. . . . The living room, formal dining room and den are open to one another. There’s porcelain tile flooring in the foyer, kitchen and laundry room and ceramic tile in the bathrooms. The rest is hardwood flooring. The kitchen has three skylights. . . . But the centerpiece is really the backyard. We have a large ipe wood deck off the kitchen and master bedroom. It’s like mahogany but stronger. There’s an outdoor stone and granite cooking area that includes a Lynx barbecue and a small refrigerator. The deck is spacious, with a sitting area and a remote-controlled awning. Four steps down a wide stairway is a bluestone patio that surrounds the Mountain Lake 22-by-44-foot in-ground pool. Our patio dining set and a large gazebo are by the pool with plenty of space to spare. People say our backyard is like a resort. In fact, they call it Casa Riccio.”
