Why it’s for sale Nina, 58, lead teacher in the Town of Smithtown’s school-age child-care program, and Scott, 58, an executive director at TIME Inc., say they want to downsize.

The Kerrs’ 3,149-square-foot home in the Grange section looks straight out of Traditional Living magazine. Nina shares:

“We’re on a flat one-acre lot, which is rare in this area. It’s very private; part of our backyard is wooded. The home has great flow for entertaining. For formal holiday dinners, we open the dining room table and make it expansive since the living and dining room flow into one another. It’s the same thing with the kitchen and den. Off the den is a four-season room with an oversized skylight, heating and lighting. We spend a lot of time there year-round. . . . We totally reconfigured the first floor when we bought the house, and one exterior wall we converted to windows. It’s bright and sunny. I honestly feel the Grange community is the best-kept secret in Smithtown. It abuts the Nissequogue River, where I walk our dog every day. It’s very serene and quiet. People canoe and kayak on the river. But we’re also minutes from the train station and town and shopping. We’re one block from River Road, where the resident-only beaches are and walking distance to the Whisper Vineyards. This is a great place to live. All the homes are on an acre and each home is well taken care of.”
