Why it’s for sale David, 52, was recruited by the Department of Homeland Security for duty in Washington, D.C. Deb, 52, a marketing director for a cost-consulting company, will work out of its Washington, D.C., office.

Truth be told, Deb thought she and David would live in this nine-room Colonial at least until retirement. “We love our house and the area,” Deb says, adding, “It’s hard to leave.” The couple have put a lot of work into the house since they purchased it in 1997. The siding, roof and windows have been replaced while interior enhancements include a new kitchen and three updated bathrooms. The kitchen is outfitted with Silestone countertops, stainless steel appliances and a wood floor. As for the bathrooms — one has a Jacuzzi tub and another sports an air-tub, which creates bubbles. Other features include a fireplace in the den. The main floor is handicap accessible with wide doorways and a bathroom that can accommodate a wheelchair. There are four bedrooms — three up and one down. The master suite and the office each have a deck overlooking the bay. Deb talks about her favorite spot in the house as well as the garden:

“Our favorite room is called the mezzanine. It’s on the third floor with unobstructed 180 degree views of the Great South Bay. It’s such a peaceful room ... The aggravation of the day just melts away ... The other side of the room overlooks the gardens and fish pond ... The property is 100 by 125 feet and has perennial gardens surrounding the house  ... We have a huge circular driveway with pavers ...The neighborhood has a private beach and marina.”
