Why it’s for sale The couple, who have two adult daughters, say they are ready to downsize. Jeffrey, 68, an attorney, is in the process of retiring, while Ellen, 64, a teacher in the Brentwood school district, is quickly approaching her very last day of work.

Since moving into this ranch — located in Nassau Shores across from a canal and three houses from the bay — 39 years ago, the Levitts say they have been steadfast about maintaining their home. “Anything that needed to be done has been done many times over,” says Ellen, noting that everything is updated. About five and a half years ago, the house was expanded to create a a one-bedroom apartment for Ellen’s mom. (It’s a legal mother/daughter residence, though the new owners must reapply for a permit.) With the addition, the house is 3,300 square feet. Features of the main house include wood floors, about 50 high hats throughout, a den with a wood-burning fireplace and sliders, as well as a bedroom wing with four bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Recent renovations include the kitchen, designed with granite countertops in a river rock design. One remodeled bathroom features a soft gray suede wall with glass tile and a cherry red vanity with a granite countertop. Ellen, who has a bent for decorating, chats about the dining room and the 100-by-100-foot property:

“I love entertaining in my dining room. Jaws drop when people see it. The walls are a deep raspberry color and I can seat 14 very comfortably ... We have a covered patio with lights and a fan ... You have the ability to cookout 24/7, 365 and you can eat out there rain or shine. We also have a hot tub and a small putting green in the back ... We have about 30 outdoor lights around the house ... There’s a trex deck on top of the apartment that you can access from outside.”
