Why it’s for sale: Jerry, 54, a paper broker who owns his own company, and his wife, Patti, 55, who works with him, say they own a house on the West Coast and will be moving there.

The Jakobs’ home was built in 1952. They’ve owned it for 17 years, and it sits on  parklike property. Patti talks about the home:

“The neighborhood is the best-kept secret on Long Island. We have deeded rights to a private beach and jetty and belong to a home association (21 houses). . . . We go to the beach to watch the sun set, and the kids, growing up, spent time down there. . . . We’re on a flat half-acre and the backyard is enormous. It’s fully fenced with beautiful specimen plants and trees . . . some copper beech trees. . . . The floor plan is a traditional ranch. We have a marble fireplace in the living room and dining room. We updated the kitchen with high-end appliances . . . a Subzero refrigerator, Bosch dishwasher and Dacor stove. The granite counters complement the teak cabinets. . . . The den is 28 by 15 feet. . . . We also have a finished basement. . . . It’s like having a second den. There’s a wet bar, a refrigerator, a workshop, laundry room, cedar closet and storage space. . . . We lived in Glen Cove for 10 years before discovering this neighborhood. It’s the former estate of John R. Maxwell."
