Why it’s for sale: The couple say they would like to downsize and move further east to be closer to their two grandchildren, who are 3 and 23 months. Jerry, 61, a Verizon retiree, is vice president of Local 1106 CWA. Brenda, 57, is a senior field representative at Child Care Council of Suffolk.

Spacious and well kept, Jerry and Brenda have been vigilant about maintaining this 11-room Colonial since they moved in 23 years ago. In the last five years, they put on a new roof, installed a new cesspool and redid the driveway. Just last winter they replaced the oil burner and tank. As for fun projects, the couple recently renovated the kitchen, which features a new pantry, refaced cabinets, granite countertops, a tile backsplash and new appliances. Brenda says the house has so much closet space, including a walk-in linen closet, they never had to use the attic for storage. And the house, which has five bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms, features an indoor atrium with a small fish pond and tropical plants. Brenda chats some more about the house and the .52-acre property:

“We enjoyed the space. We have a large family, so it’s been great for entertaining ... You can see the atrium from the entrance foyer. It’s glass encased and was built into the house ... My husband, who did all the gardening, also put a pond in the backyard. There’s a large deck out back that we love in the summer time.”
