Indian Wells Beach is restricted to East Hampton Town residents. Other beaches, including 2 open to day visitors, are accessible to all with seasonal parking permits (residents free). Obtain permits weekdays at town clerk's office in East Hampton or at the Montauk Playhouse. Day visitors can go to Atlantic Beach, Mon.-Fri. $25 (no weekends or holidays), or Kirk Park daily; free parking. Permit details, 631-324-4142; beach information, 631-324-2417 or ehamptonny.gov.

Description:

Surfers always have flocked to Montauk, if only to ride the waves at the world-famous Ditch Plains Beach. A jetty at Ditch Plains creates longboard waves. The beach is free to town residents.

There's a food stand, sand wheelchair and restrooms.
