'Bachelor' star, fiancee call it quits

"The Bachelor" star Jake Pavelka and his fiancee from the series, Vienna Girardi, have ended their relationship amid charges that for his part, at least, it wasn't much of real relationship at all.

A representative for the couple said in a statement Tuesday that, "Jake and Vienna have split and appreciate respect for their privacy at this time."

Pavelka, 32, told a TMZ videographer Tuesday that he and Girardi, 24, "were split," adding "I'm just saddened by the whole thing, but you know, sometimes love just isn't enough in a relationship."

Girardi had packed and moved out of Pavelka's home Saturday, TMZ reported, leaving behind the three-carat Neil Lane diamond engagement ring that Pavelka must return to the show's producers. That night, Girardi, under the auspices of the charity group Reality Cares, attended the Children's Hospital of Orange County Oncology Prom, an annual event held to cheer the hospital's young patients. There she told actor Gregory Michael (ABC Family's "Greek") that her engagement was over.

Gregory told OK! magazine Monday, "We hit it off and hung out and danced the night away. She made it very clear that it was over with Jake."

Girardi's stepmother, Lisa, said she's not sorry to see Pavelka go. "I don't think [he] ever really loved her," she told TMZ. "I think he picked her because she is a dramatic person and it was good for the ratings."

Pavelka - a pilot for the regional carrier Atlantic Southeast Airlines - surprised many viewers when he chose Girardi, a former Hooters waitress who often clashed with the other contestants.
