Reality star Bethenny Frankel, known for her tough exterior, broke down while discussing her divorce with Ellen DeGeneres Wednesday on "Ellen."

The Skinnygirl Cocktails creator opened up to DeGeneres, who praised her for keeping her appearance on the show, saying Frankel could have easily canceled in the midst of her divorce from Jason Hoppy after nearly three years of marriage.

"I can't just only be on reality TV and show everything when it's the fairy-princess fairy tale and then not take my hits when I have to," Frankel said. "I've had kind of the best-worst year ever. So I have to -- it's the highs and the lows."

While she was obviously emotional from the start of the interview, Frankel, 42, really choked up as she confessed to feeling like she let down fans after filing for divorce last week.

"I feel like a bit of a disappointment to all of you, and I feel like a failure," she said. "I feel like a failure, I really put it out there, I wanted the fairy tale, I thought I had it ... I don't know how people go through this, because this is excruciating, I have to say."

Frankel and Hoppy's courtship and marriage were documented on the Bravo reality shows "Bethenny Getting Married?" and "Bethenny Ever After." The soon-to-be exes have a two-year-old daughter, Bryn.
