"Parks and Recreation" star Amy Poehler opens up about her divorce from Will Arnett and details her past drug use in her upcoming memoir, "Yes Please."

"Imagine spreading everything you care about on a blanket and then tossing the whole thing up in the air," Poehler, 43, wrote of her divorce, in excerpts published by Hello! magazine. "The process of divorce is about loading that blanket, throwing it up, watching it all spin, and worrying what stuff will break when it lands."

The couple married in August 2003 and were separated by September 2012. Arnett, 44, filed for divorce earlier this year, on April 8.

Poehler, a former "Saturday Night Live" cast member, in her book called the reasons for the breakup "too sad" and "too personal" to talk about, but reflected that, "When you are a person going through a divorce you feel incredibly alone, yet you are constantly reminded by society of how frequently divorce happens and how common it has become. You aren't allowed to feel special, but no one knows the specific ways you are in pain."

She commended Arnett as a good father to their sons Abel, 4, and Archie, who turns 6 this month.

Poehler also confessed, in a chapter title "Obligatory Drug Stories," that many years ago "I tried cocaine, which I instantly loved but eventually hated," according to excerpts posted by "Cocaine is terrific if you want to hang out with people you don't know very well and play Ping-Pong all night. It's bad for almost everything else. . . . The day after cocaine is rough."

She also writes of having taken the drug ecstasy as well as psychedelic mushrooms, but says that except for occasional marijuana, her days of recreational drugs are behind her.

The book is scheduled for publication Oct. 28.
