Redhead Carrie Preston, who plays the ditsy but brilliant Elsbeth Tascioni on the CBS hit "The Good Wife" and waitress Arlene on HBO's "True Blood," sat front and center at the Tadashi Shoji show Thursday afternoon dressed in a fitted, coppery sheath that neither of her characters would wear. "There's always an extra frill or bow or something," she said. "I call it her expression." But then again, she added, "Who knows what Elsbeth wears after hours."
"I was duped," said Ryan Star, the Long Island-born rocker, early Thursday at the Nicholas K. show. "When they said 9 o'clock, I thought they meant nine at night -- you know a party, fun." But here he was taking in the earliest show of the day, which included menswear. "I'd call it grunge 2.0," he said of the collection. "I liked the leggings under shorts, it's a new take on same old skinny jeans." Next stop? "I'm going home to get my snowboard long johns out and cut them like that." We think he's going home to sleep.
When "Orange Is the New Black" hits the front row at New York Fashion Week, you do a double-take. Seriously -- THESE are the same bad-girl inmates? "It's fun making the transformation," says Vicky Jeudy, who plays Janae on the Netflix megahit series. "We hardly wear any makeup on the show, sometimes just eyeliner." "And we don't have to wash our hair -- they put grease in it to clump it up," adds Jackie Cruz (Flaca). So dolling up for the uber-girlie and colorful Desigual runway show at the Mercedes-Benz tents at Lincoln Center on the first day of fashion week . . . well, it's a trip.
