Are model-actress Christie Brinkley and singer-songwriter John Mellencamp dating?
People magazine said yesterday that East End resident Brinkley, 61, and Grammy Award-winner Mellencamp, who turns 64 Wednesday, dined together at the restaurant Scalinatella on Manhattan's Upper East Side on Saturday, and on Sunday were photographed leaving an unnamed hotel in the TriBeCa neighborhood.
The two had had dinner together at The Bowery Hotel in mid-September, "Entertainment Tonight" said at the time, noting that they separately had attended an August screening of Bill Murray's upcoming comedy "Rock the Kasbah."
Us Weekly said in September that after Billy Joel performed "The Longest Time" -- his 1980s tribute to ex-wife Brinkley -- at his Sept. 26 Madison Square Garden concert, he told the audience in a joking tone, "And now she's dating John Mellencamp." It was unclear if he was being serious or poking fun at rumors.
A joint spokeswoman for Brinkley and Mellencamp did not respond to a Newsday request for comment.
Brinkley married French illustrator Jean-Francois Allaux in 1974, divorcing after seven years. She married Joel in March 1985 and had her first child, singer Alexa Ray Joel, that December. The couple revealed in April 1994 that they had been separated since Thanksgiving, and they divorced shortly afterward. Brinkley's subsequent 11-month marriage to real estate developer Ricky Taubman produced a son, Jack Paris, in June 1995. The following year, she wed architect Peter Cook, with whom she had daughter Sailor Lee in July 1998 before an acrimonious divorce that went on from 2006 to 2008.
Mellencamp has five children from three marriages; the most recent, to model Elaine Irwin, ended in August 2011. He had begun dating actress Meg Ryan months earlier, but the two broke up in August 2014.
