Couric and a host of other Carmen Marc Valvo fans gathered at the Nasdaq building in Times Square Sunday night for Valvo's fall runway show, and to celebrate the launch of his new book, "Dressed to Perfection: The Art of Dressing for Your Red Carpet Moments" (Rizzoli, $50).
Couric and Vanessa Williams, both longtime clients, wrote forewords to the book, which offers up tips on how to dress for special occasions. "He's a great designer but we also have a personal connection, because he's a colon cancer survivor," says Couric, whose husband died of the disease.
The two have each raised awareness and funds for the cause. (Valvo is donating his proceeds from the sales of the book to the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance.) Supporting colon cancer research, Couric admits, can be a tough sell. "It wasn't necessarily fashionable, but he made it so."
True to her word, about an hour after she left the party, Couric posted her photo with Valvo on Twitter. "I love Carmen Marc Valvo's clothes," she tweeted, "and love him even more."
