Dr. Mehmet Oz and his family put their family dog, Rosie Oz, to rest on Sunday.
Dr. Oz expressed in a heartfelt Facebook post that Rosie was put down due to an aggressive tumor and renal failure that she was battling against for the past few months.
“Those of you who are animal-lovers know that the loyalty and love of a pet makes them a profoundly important part of your life. Rose was a part of the Oz family for years,” Oz wrote. “Rosie, we're all going to miss you dearly, but we're grateful for the amazing years we had with you and the light you brought to our lives. We love you."
The post has more than 28,000 reactions and has been shared more than 500 times on Facebook. More than 4,500 people commented on it. Some Facebook followers sent their condolences.
Ana Paula Dande commented, “So sorry for your loss, Dr. Oz. I know it’s not easy to let go of Rosie but I am sure she was very loved and had a great life. Praying for comfort for your family.”
Some even shared their story of losing a family pet.
Carol Bradshaw commented, “We lost our 13 1/2 yr old Bandit last July, due to kidney failure. We still cry, and miss him. He was a registered therapy dog, and my husband's PTSD and mobility service dog. I'll ask Bandit to welcome your Rosie girl to heaven, and be her pal. Sorry for your loss!”
