After the couple announced on the "Today" show Tuesday that they are expecting their 20th child, Jim Bob said in a video on the family blog, "I know a lot of you out there probably think, 'Wow, what have they done here? They've had 20 babies.' But y'know, each one of our children [is] so thankful to be here and we're so thankful for each one of them, and we consider each child a gift and a blessing from God."
He told People magazine each child gets adequate parental attention. "We home-school, so we are around our children day in and day out," he said. "Because I am in real estate, I am home and can be with the children a lot. When we go to the store or run errands, we take the kids one on one and we get to spend more time individually than a lot of parents do."
As for trying again after a high-risk pregnancy -- daughter Josie was born prematurely at 25 weeks in December 2009, and is fine now -- Michelle Duggar, 45, told People, "That whole mind set, that you stop after a problem pregnancy, isn't realistic. You may encounter struggles along the way. You may not have a perfect pregnancy, but each child is a precious gift."
