British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has joined the ranks of those who have abandoned Twitter, at least temporarily, after cyberbullying by internet trolls.

“I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it,” the 26-year-old “Shape of You” singer told the British tabloid The Sun. “I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. Twitter’s a platform for that. One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it.”

Sheeran said he “has been trying to work out why people dislike me so much.”

He will continue to maintain his Twitter account, where he has 19.2 million followers, but only for Instagram-generated posts.

“I have people like my dad who will have a conversation with me,” he said. “I don’t have to have someone calling me a whatever.”
