Fergie and Josh Duhamel are splitting up after eight years of marriage.
“With absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year,” the pair confirmed to People in a joint statement. “To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public. We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family.”
The couple met in 2004 when Fergie, a member of The Black Eyed Peas, guest-starred as herself in an episode of Duhamel’s television series “Las Vegas.” Recalling their meeting on a 2015 episode of “The Late Late Show With James Corden,” Duhamel, 44, said he was extremely nervous. “It was like my moment of truth. I laid out my outfit the night before, which I’d never done in my life,” he said. “So it was a big buildup when I finally got to talk to her, and all I could say was, ‘You’re hot.’ ”
The singer and actor were married in January 2009 in a ceremony at the Church Estates Vineyards in Malibu where the guest list included Rebecca Romijn, Jerry O’Connell, Mario Lopez, Kate Hudson, will.i.am and James Caan. In January, Fergie, 42, and Duhamel shared photos of themselves on Instagram looking happy together as they celebrated their anniversary with their son Axl Jack, 4.
In June, Duhamel spoke to Fox News about how the couple’s marriage had evolved. “We really, really like each other and like spending time around each other,” he said. “We’ve been through so much together that it’s just a whole different level from what it was before.”
