French actor Olivier Martinez has confirmed that he and Oscar-winner Halle Berry are engaged, and slammed a jewelry designer he says falsely claimed to have created their engagement ring.
"Yes, of course it's true," Martinez, 46, told The Miami Herald when asked about the engagement that had been rumored since January.
He added that New York jewelry designer Gurhan, which had claimed then to have designed the diamond-and-emerald engagement ring, was "taking credit for doing the ring and it's a lie! They have nothing to do with this."
The ring was actually designed by Robert Mazlo of the Parisian jeweler La Joaillerie par Mazlo, which Martinez said has created jewelry for "kings and queens for many centuries."
The actor, in Miami Beach to promote his new South Beach restaurant Villa Azur, called Mazlo "a real artist."
Berry, 45, who met Martinez when they filmed the thriller "Dark Tide" in South Africa in 2010, was married to baseball player David Justice in the 1990s, and to R&B musician Eric Benét in the early 2000s.
In 2010, she broke up with model Gabriel Aubry, the father of her daughter, Nahla, who turns 4 on Friday.
