The lineup for Super Bowl XLIX continues to grow, and on Friday, the "Today" show confirmed that R&B star John Legend will perform "America the Beautiful" before kickoff.
The news was part of a triple play of good tidings for Legend last week. On Jan. 11 he won a Golden Globe for his song "Glory," which he wrote with rapper Common for the movie "Selma." Then on Thursday, the song earned an Oscar nomination.
In addition to Legend, Syosset native Idina Menzel will be performing the national anthem. Katy Perry will headline the halftime show.
New Lambert music
It's been more than two years since "American Idol" alum Adam Lambert released an album, but the wait may finally be over. Billboard reports that Lambert is scheduled to release his third studio album sometime this summer.
Lambert is collaborating again with producers Max Martin and Shellback, the team behind his hit "Whataya Want from Me."
The singer toured with Queen last year and is gearing up for another European tour. He also joined judges Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. during the Long Island auditions of "American Idol" that aired Thursday.
