A baseball teammate, a daytime talk-show host and other well-wishers are reacting to Saturday's engagement announcement by singer-actress Jennifer Lopez and former Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.

"I'm cutting onions I swear," former Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes, 32, tweeted jokingly of becoming tearful at the news, prompting the 43-year-old Rodriguez to reply, "Thanks Coach. Miss you brother." Comedian and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres, 61, kidded in the comments section of Lopez's Instagram account, "Yes. I'll be your Maid of Honor," according to a screenshot by Comments by Celebs — which also captured music producer and hip-hop star DJ Khaled, 43, commenting, "Congrats !!!!!!!!" at Rodriguez's Instagram account.

Even Major League Baseball's official Twitter account chimed in, cheekily tweeting, "@AROD delivers another ring to the Bronx," a reference to his playing for the 2009 World Series champion New York Yankees in his 16th big-league season. Rodriguez tweeted back, "I'm glad I didn't have to wait 16 years for this yes."

On Saturday, Rodriguez — nicknamed A-Rod and famed as the youngest player to hit 500 home runs — had posted across his social media a close-up photo of his and Lopez's clasped hands, hers bearing a sizable engagement ring. "She said yes," he wrote. Pop star Lopez, 49, posted the same photo on her Instagram and Twitter accounts, writing eight heart emoji in the former and 11 in the latter.

On their dating anniversary on Feb. 3, Lopez had written on Instagram, "Two years of laughter. Two years of fun. Two years of adventures. Of excitement of growing and learning. Of true friendship. And so much love!! You make my world a more beautiful safe and stable place... in the midst of our ever-changing, ever-moving life... you make me feel like a teenager starting out all over again... Every time I think I have you pegged, you surprise me in the most wonderful ways reminding me how blessed I am to have found you now in this moment at this time... our time... Te Amo Macho," she concluded, with wordplay based on "Te amo mucho," Spanish for "I love you very much."

This would be a fourth marriage for the Bronx-born Lopez. She had wed waiter Ojani Noa in 1997 and dancer Chris Judd in 2001; both marriages ended in divorce. She was married to Grammy Award-winner Marc Anthony from 2004 until separating in 2011 and divorcing three years later. They share twins Max and Emme, 11, who were born on Long Island. Lopez also has had high-profile relationships with rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs, actor Ben Affleck and dancer Casper Smart.

New York City native Rodriguez, now an entrepreneur and sportscasting personality, has daughters Natasha, 14, and Ella, 10, with his ex-wife, Cynthia Scurtis, whom he married in 2002 and divorced in 2008.
