Pop star Justin Bieber warned followers of his Instagram page Sunday that he would not countenance the spate of mean-spirited posts attacking him and model Sofia Richie for visiting Japan together.
“I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate this is getting out of hand, if you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like,” the “Sorry” singer, 22, posted on Instagram to accompany the sixth black-and-white photo he’d posted in quick succession showing himself and Sofia close-up in a car. As of late Sunday afternoon, the post had garnered at least one million likes and more than 304,000 comments. He subsequently posted a photo of his limousine driver.
Bieber and Richie — the daughter of singer Lionel Richie — were photographed together during the past several days in Laguna Beach, California, and the singer’s house in nearby Toluca Lake, People magazine said.
In addition to the Instagram photos Bieber posted Sunday, Richie, who turns 18 on Aug. 24, put up a photo of herself and a lightheartedly clowning Bieber in a car, and another of herself and Bieber at a plaza in Japan.
Bieber performed at the Makuhari Messe convention center outside Tokyo on Saturday and Sunday. These and two shows next weekend at the V Festival in England are the only August dates on his Purpose World Tour, which concluded its North American leg last month at Madison Square Garden. The tour resumes Sept. 8 in Kópavogur, Iceland.
On Saturday, Bieber told fans, “I only have Twitter Facebook and Instagram right now. If I reopen my snapchat I will tell u.”
