A California judge has granted model-actress Karrueche Tran a five-year restraining order against her former boyfriend, singer Chris Brown.
Testifying in a Santa Monica court Thursday, Tran, 29, said Brown, 28, became aggressive after their breakup when she refused to return diamond rings he had given her, reported TMZ.com. Tran testified he had beaten her in the past and that after their relationship ended, he would send her texts threatening physical harm. E! News added that in two voicemails played for the court, Brown can be heard angrily cursing and threatening Tran over the rings.
During cross-examination, in response to a question of why she never reported the alleged behavior to police, Tran said she feared for her safety. She conceded she was supposed to give the rings to a mutual friend to return to Brown, reported E!, but falsely told Brown she had sold them, explaining, “I was tired of dealing with him, so I just said I sold them already so he’d leave me alone.”
Grammy Award-winner Brown was not in court. The judge had refused his request to attend via telephone.
The restraining order issued Thursday bars Brown from contacting or harassing Tran or from coming within a certain distance of her, said GossipCop.com. Tran had been granted a temporary restraining order in February that specified 100 yards.
Brown — whose history of legal issues has included five years probation and more than 1,400 hours of community service following his conviction for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 — had an on-and-off relationship with Tran beginning in 2011. They broke up in October 2012, but eventually reconciled, and appeared to break up for good in March 2015.
