Days after former “Cosby Show” child star Keshia Knight Pulliam announced she and husband Ed Hartwell are expecting their first child together, Hartwell has filed for divorce and is requesting a paternity test.
The African American-oriented website TheYBF.com posted a Fulton County, Georgia, court’s “Register of Action” showing that former NFL pro Hartwell, 38, filed on Monday for what that document lists as a contested divorce. Hartwell, who married Pulliam on New Year’s Eve 2015, told the site through his representative, “Right now, the only thing I want is a paternity test for the baby.”
Citing other documents it did not post, TheYBF said the divorce filing lists the cause as irreconcilable differences, “such as constant disagreements on life-changing decisions that couples typically make together.”
Pulliam, 37, who played youngest child Rudy Huxtable on “The Cosby Show” (NBC, 1984-92), posted the pregnancy news on Instagram on July 17, with a photo of herself holding a pink cupcake bearing a baby decoration. “Surprise!!!” she captioned the image. “We have a new addition coming soon.” Friends she invited to her home for the announcement posted their congratulations. “Our Sunday Family Dinner turned into a BABY REVEAL!!! #ItsAGirl !!!” wrote pal Tobey Renee, adding, “My Peaches is gonna be a Mommy!! Love you @keshiaknightpulliam and congrats to you and @edhartwell on your baby girl!!! I’m so happy for you!!!”
Hartwell, a linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens and Atlanta Falcons from 2001 to 2006, with brief stints at subsequent teams, appeared on the Bravo reality show “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” in 2008, when he was married to cast-member Lisa Wu. The two wed in 2005 and had a 3-year-old child, Ed Jr., in 2011 when they announced they were separating. Hartwell filed for divorce on Aug. 24 of that year, and it was finalized less than two months later, on Oct. 7.
Pulliam’s representative did not respond to a Newsday request for comment.
